We're making a cake
We're baking a cake
The wooden spoon is stirring
The electric whisk is whirring
The cat sits watching and waiting and purring
We break the eggs and pour out the flour,
We measure the milk, we've only an hour,
The butter is chopped, the cocoa is sprinkled,
We line the tin and smooth out the wrinkles
The light goes out 'cos the cooker is ready,
The mixture is fluffy and we pour it out steady,
Into the tin, then into the oven,
There's mess everywhere,
But we don't care
We scrape the bowl and lick the spoon,
And we look at the clock, it'll be ready soon

So I thought I should enter, firstly to push my work out there a bit more, beyond the boundaries of my writing group, and also (as co-leader of the group) to lead by example and encourage our members to also enter.
I entered 'asthma', (which is on this blog under May 2013) due to the positive feedback from my friends at Pinner Writers Group and a feeling that this would be the best of my most recent poems, and was very pleased to get the call saying I was shortlisted into the final ten and to read at the presentation afternoon at Harrow Arts Centre on 21st March.
And to trim a long story shorter, I was awarded 2nd place in the adults (over 18) category, which is great feedback and affirmation.
While this link is alive you can read about the presentation afternoon at :
